Annenberg Foundation Launches AI Strategy Residency with Chantal Forster

The Annenberg Foundation is embarking on a new initiative to address the implications of artificial intelligence (AI) in philanthropy through a comprehensive 360-degree approach. To lead this effort, the Foundation has established an AI Strategy Residency and appointed Chantal Forster, a respected leader in technology and social impact, to spearhead this mission for the next six months.

Committed to addressing the critical needs of our time, the Annenberg Foundation’s innovative philanthropic efforts focus on finding solutions to societal challenges in areas such as education and unfinished learning, workforce development and generational wealth, food equity, conservation and sustainability. As AI transforms the way our world functions, Forster will work with the Annenberg team to not only find ways to use the power of artificial intelligence to enhance operations at the Foundation, but also to explore strategic AI programs and pilots relevant to the business of philanthropy.

“Artificial Intelligence is coming at us quickly and with great fanfare. For those in the business of enhancing communities, it is critical that we approach this new frontier with strategy and coordination. Nonprofits and funders have an opportunity to steer AI in responsible ways, ensuring equitable access and human flourishing. Chantal’s expertise, vision, and approachability align perfectly with our mission to innovate collaboratively and inspire change. This residency marks another step in our ongoing efforts to explore new frontiers in philanthropy.”

Executive Director, Annenberg Foundation

Chantal Forster, the former Executive Director of the Technology Association of Grantmakers (TAG), brings a wealth of experience in bridging technology and social good. Her role at Annenberg will involve collaborating with various stakeholders to identify opportunities where AI can make a meaningful impact, particularly in underserved communities. Her work will build on the Annenberg Foundation’s legacy of forward-thinking philanthropy, ensuring that AI integration aligns with ethical standards and maximizes positive outcomes.

“For philanthropy, adopting AI is not about jumping on the bandwagon or embracing techno-futurism. I believe it is our responsibility to wrestle with the issues of our time, develop thoughtful approaches, and be advocates for the voiceless. I am honored to serve the Annenberg Foundation in this capacity and look forward to working alongside its talented team to advance a shared vision to leverage AI for excellence, well-being, and social impact.”
